A swathe of abstract red lines are deployed across the canvas, with yellow, green and blue highlights. The title of the work evokes the Sahara desert’s heat. Louise Giovanelli explains:
My practice is informed by ways of looking and perceiving, with the act of looking itself as a kind of content. I employ found and generated images, cultural references and excerpts from other art forms to investigate the languages and histories of painting’. Her works ‘foreground sensorial possibilities, primarily visual – seeing into as opposed to projecting onto’.
Born in London, Louise Giovanelli is an emerging artist, having studied at the Manchester School of Art (2012–15) and under Prof. Amy Sillman at the Städelschule, Frankfurt Am Main (2018–20).
