    Linear brush strokes have been applied by Wendy Pasmore in muted tones within an elliptic outline. The painted board is mounted onto a white outerboard (repainted); adding a discreet three-dimensional element. Both the composition, technique and construction of this painting are representative of Pasmore’s late 1950s–60s work, following her move to abstraction. Her subsequent production incorporated calligraphic mark-making worked over paper collage.

    While training at the Chelmsford Art School (from 1933), Pasmore met her husband painter Victor Pasmore (1908–1988). The pair were at the heart of London’s 1940s–50s art scene. However, it was only after becoming a member of the Women’s International Art Club in 1955, that Wendy Pasmore’s professional profile rose, with exposure through the London Group, and a retrospective interest in her work arising in the 1960s.
